Video Subtitling Translation

The process of translating and subtitling videos involves converting audible dialogue and sounds into synchronized text displayed on the screen, while preserving the original audio for accessibility or localization purposes.

  • Main Steps

It begins with accurate audio transcription, followed by translation into the target language when necessary, with segmentation into short blocks respecting character limits and reading time. This is followed by time synchronization via specialized software, review for cultural coherence and formatting (position, color, and duration of subtitles), concluding with quality control and export in formats such as SRT.

  • Technical Requirements

It requires subtitling tools (e.g., Aegisub or Subtitle Edit), knowledge of standards such as 2 lines per 35-42 characters and 15 characters per second, as well as thematic glossaries for semantic fidelity in technical or fictional content.

  • Advantages

It expands the global reach of institutional, educational, or entertainment videos, promoting inclusion for deaf or multilingual audiences at a lower cost than dubbing and preserving the original content.
